I think that the teenagers who waited the English world out finally realized that everyone outside of the Amish community do not act like animals. This explains the Amish community from The Devils Playground perfectly. Court decisions insure that minority rights are protected against what often has been the mainstream's desire or perceived need to force assimilation or even attempt destruction through law or mob action. Personally I would die without my freedom to travel in my car or have a lawn mower to mow my yard.One girl in the film went back to the Amish church and had been baptized but later decided it was not for her and was shunned. Also, In the Amish community a person cannot come and go as they please and if they decide to leave after being accepted (baptized) then that person will be shunned. When Amish teens turn 16, they have the opportunity to venture out in the "Devil's Playground" (the Amish's term for the outside world) and indulge in 21st-century vices such as drinking and smoking -- a period called "Rumspringa."
