At the end the author goes into a psych/social breakdown of the composite, which I almost completely disagree with. Wisconsin Death Trip shows that insanity and crime are problems in the country as well as the city. For anyone inclined to idealize frontier society, this would be an eye-opener. Wierd, wierd, wierd great book for overly moody man-children who think a passing interest in "death" makes them deep. Wisconsin Death Trip is an intimate, shocking and sometimes hilarious account of the disasters that befell one small town in Wisconsin during the final decade of the nineteenth century. The old men who went mad with jealousy. But it felt as if the author was trying too hard to present the book as an experimental, sociological art project, which sometimes worked well, but sometimes bordered on the ridiculous.
